Stinson 108-3 For Sale <p>

Stinson 108-3 For Sale - $46,500

April 15, 2023

This Stinson 108-3 has been painstakingly restored from a "barn find" to the state it is today. This is almost certainly the finest Stinson 108-3 on the planet. The rebuilder, an A&P/IA engineer named Bob Luther, restored it over the course of several years into the beautiful airplane that you see below. The only reason it is for sale now was his sudden decline in health, after he'd flown it only a few hours, and subsequent passing. He was a "Professional" electrical engineer, who worked on Apollo, Space Shuttle and other NASA projects, and was trained as an avionics repair technician by the Navy.

Bob carefully dismantled the plane down to the bare frame, which was meticulously cleaned, particle blasted, and repainted. The rest was accomplished with similar care and effort, and there are 3000 photos to document the process, which will be provided to the buyer for their records. All instruments were refurbished, and avionics upgrades as described in the equipment list. Engine was major overhauled by a reputable Franklin engine rebuilder (see logbook entry below), including new pistons, liners, exhaust valves, mags overhauled, etc. Fabric covering was completely redone using the Stits process and painted with Poly Fiber materials. Paint amd markings are original Stinson colors, and N number is the original N-number from the Stinson factory. Interior upholstery is soft leather. All work is recorded in the logbooks, with the most recent annual inspection performed Sept 22,2023. There are no known problems with the plane. Recent borescope showed zero indication of rust, and clearly visible cross-hatching....not surprisingly, given the very low time on the engine. Logbooks are below, as well as a link to the Stinson Plane News feature article. The Franklin Engine is 165hp, model 6A4-165-B3. It now sports a Sky-Tec starter, as well as a uAvionix Skybeacon ADSB on the left wing tip, replacing the navlight.

Photos (made Sept 22,2023) and log book entries are below. Some photos below may be missing the wheel fairings, but they are now installed, and the airplane is ready to go to an appreciative home. Priced to sell, for $46,500.
